Whether you are just starting fishing or you have been involved in this passion for long, you have probably noticed that many anglers go fishing at night. Here are the reasons why people prefer fishing at night.

You Have a Chance to Catch More Fish at Night

While moon phase and tides can influence fish activity, you can be almost sure that many species are going to be active around and after dusk. Some anglers believe that the worst day to go fishing is right after a full moon. Many fish prefer to feed at night, and when there is a light source, in this case from a full moon, they can get full before sunrise. But they can be easily lured to you with the right bait at night.

Fish are more active after dusk, before the water gets cooler. While it might not play that important a role in the winter or autumn, it is crucial information for anglers to remember in summer. During a hot day, fish dive as deep down in the water as possible to cool down. Then when the temperature goes down, they come closer to the surface and actively search for food.

You Can Avoid Sunburn

Sunburn is not only unpleasant but can also be a very serious health threat, as it can lead to skin cancer. Going fishing at night eliminates this risk. Without the intense sunlight, you can enjoy hours of fishing without a worry you will get sunstroke.

If you fish on a sunny day, don’t forget to bring a hat and a lot of sunscreen, and to reapply it every half an hour, and have plenty of water ready. If you need to carry all your angling equipment, even a few extra items like this can make your escapade harder (and heavier).

Less Competition and People Around

If you want to immerse into fishing without anyone bothering you or catching a fish right next to you, you should choose the night. Many people don’t go to fish at night, because of their jobs, family responsibilities, and so on. This is why you can get your favorite fishing spot and fish just for yourself.

The Only Free Time

For some people, going to fish at night might be the only option. Also because of the responsibilities mentioned above, they might not have time to fish during the day. Perhaps Saturday night is the only moment they can forget about work, and get a little bit of slack from other responsibilities.

Always Be Prepared When Going to Fish at Night

Fishing at night can be a wonderful event, especially when the weather is nice, and you can see the sky full of stars. Always be prepared for your nocturnal escapades to be safe. Take a flashlight with you, and don’t forget about a spare battery, just in case. You can also take extra clothes and shoes for a change, in case you get wet. You don’t want to spend the rest of the night in a soaking outfit or cut your trip short.
